ART CONSERVATORS AND RESTORATION PROFESSIONALS

A cultural asset requires MAINTENANCE, PRESERVATION, MONITORING and RESTORATION. Science can support art historians, restorers, and conservators in charge of such practices in various ways. After collaborating for years and knowing about the needs and demands of the workforce, we can provide complementary services to those of the preservation and monitoring, with the aim to support the restoration work, and in order to guide it in the right direction.

WHAT DO WE OFFER

RECORD OF PRESERVATION

The examination of the overall state of preservation of the artwork by means of analytical techniques, including both imaging diagnostics and analytical diagnostics. In particular, attention is paid to the present and possible future critical aspects of the artwork, by creating an updateable technical report to monitor the piece over time and to document developments of its overall health.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY

The impact evaluation of environmental conditions on an artwork and the creation, in collaboration with environmental technicians, of an ideal preservation or exhibition environment, which meets the artwork’s needs. The service is aimed at mobile artefacts such as sculptures, ceramics, pictorial works, graphic works, and the like.

TARGETED STUDY

The scientific analysis, be it analytical diagnostics or targeted image diagnostics for the resolution of a specific task related to the restoration or preservation. The study of a binder, a varnish, a specific pigment, a stratigraphy of an artwork, overpaintings, earlier restorations, among others.

COMPLETE STUDY

The maximum scientific and technological effort given to an artwork, with contributions from art historians and conservators to obtain the most complete set of information possible about the materials, techniques, dating, and the state of preservation of the artefacts, whilst also recreating the history, geographical origin, and the attribution of works of art.
